Laser Removal of Angiomas
Angiomas (like common “red moles”) are benign vascular blemishes that can be removed easily. In our clinics in Preganziol (Treviso), Jesolo and Bergamo, we use the Excel V® vascular laser to remove them quickly, safely and often in a single session, leaving no scars.
What is an Angioma and How is it Treated?
Angiomas are benign skin lesions formed by an accumulation of dilated blood vessels. They can appear as small raised red dots(Ruby Angiomas), as star-shaped spots(Spider Nevi) or as bluish swellings on the lips(Venous Lakes).
The most effective and elegant method to remove them is not surgery, but vascular laser.
Cutera’s Excel V® technology emits a beam of green light that is selectively absorbed by the hemoglobin contained in the angioma. This heat instantly closes the vessels forming the lesion, causing it to “collapse” and disappear, leaving the surrounding skin intact.
Which Angiomas Do We Treat?
Treatment is indicated for the most common forms of acquired angiomas:
- Ruby Angiomas: The classic bright red dots that appear on the body and face with age.
- Star Angiomas (Spider Nevi): A central red spot from which small capillaries branch.
- Venous Ponds: Soft, purplish lesions that often form on the lower lip.
- Flat Angiomas: Vascular spots present since birth (require multiple sessions).
The Treatment at a Glance
- Duration: The session is very quick, often lasting only a few minutes.
- Sensation: Only a brief “pinch” or snap of rubber band is felt. No anesthesia is needed.
- Protocol: For ruby and spider nevi angiomas, 1 session is often sufficient.
- Post-Treatment: The angioma may turn dark for a few days before falling out or resorbing. No scarring remains.
