What Is Scar Revision?
Scar revision is a set of medical-surgical procedures aimed at improving the appearance of an existing scar. The goal is not to “erase” the scar (which is permanent repair tissue), but to make it less noticeable, improving its color, thickness, texture, and elasticity.
Often a scar appears unsightly because it has healed poorly (hypertrophic, keloid), because it is depressed (atrophic), or because it creates tension. Our integrated approach aims to correct these specific defects.
What Types of Scars Can We Treat?
Our protocols are effective on various types of scars:
- Post-Surgical Scars: Marks left by previous procedures (e.g., cesarean section, appendectomy, facelift) that appear widened or irregular.
- Acne Scars: Deep marks (“ice pick” or “boxcar”) that make the skin irregular.
- Traumatic Scars: Results of accidents or cuts.
- Hypertrophic or Keloid Scars: Raised, firm, and often reddened scars that extend beyond the original wound margins.

Our Techniques: A Combined Approach

Surgical Revision
Used for wide or irregular scars. The surgeon removes the old scar tissue and re-sutures the margins using advanced plastic surgery techniques, creating a new, much thinner and more linear scar.
Fractional CO₂ Laser (Resurfacing)
This is the gold standard for smoothing scars (especially acne or raised scars). The laser creates micro-columns of regeneration that “plane” the scar edges and stimulate new healthy collagen, making the skin smoother and more uniform.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) About Scar Revision
No, no technique can completely erase a scar. The realistic goal is to make it almost imperceptible or at least much more aesthetically acceptable, transforming a noticeable scar into a subtle, blended mark.
Surgical revision is performed under local anesthesia and is painless. Laser treatments may cause slight discomfort (similar to a rubber band snapping on the skin), which is minimized by using anesthetic creams and cooling systems.
It depends on the technique. For laser, recovery takes a few days (redness and micro-crusting). For surgery, stitches are removed after approximately 7-14 days.
